Wine Extravaganza

2009

Cap-n-Corks would like to thank everyone who made the first annual Wine Extravaganza a huge success!  We received 33 wine entries and nearly 100 wine tasters from the community attended the event!

Tasters were able to try a full spectrum of grape wines including:

Pinot Noir, Cab-Sauv-Merlot, Barolo, Wild Grape, Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, and Chamblaise.

Grape/Fruit Blends included:

Watermelon Merlot (Judge’s and Crowd Category Winner), Green Apple Riesling, Black Raspberry Merlot, and Exotic Fruit Zinfandel.

The Open Category included:

Literally everything! (Except maybe the kitchen sink)

Wines made of Elderberry, Pineapple, Raspberry, Cherry, Apple, and Cranberry provided a delightful fruity taste.  Exotics such as Canadian, Thistle, Sake, Onion, Oak Leaf, Tomato, Mountain Ash and Dandelion kept the taste buds wondering for even the most experienced palate.

Rounding out the field were several Fruity Meads.  While the Judge’s themselves swiftly came to a unanimous decision, audience voting in several categories came down to the wire with the most unique category requiring the use of a tie-breaker.

Overall, everyone had a great time tasting and talking with area home winemakers.  Thank you all for being a part of our first annual Wine Extravaganza.  If you weren’t able to make it or enter your wine, we look forward to seeing everyone back for the fall contest in late September!
